Skype with Adesola (Claims for Prior Learning) – Friday 24th November

I had a chat with Adesola this evening regarding the Claims for Prior Learning that I need to submit. She explained that I should select at least 7/8 areas of my professional practice as a dance teacher; thinking about what they mean, how I learned them and how they are part of my practice. I need to research existing literature on these areas of teaching and demonstrate how my understanding fits with established thinking about each subject. I will begin by writing a short summary of each area and the relevant research/theories. I can then discuss them with Adesola (check I am on the right track!) and select which areas I am going to develop into essays to submit. Adesola also clarified that these essays should be factual rather than reflective like the Module 1 work. Their purpose is to demonstrate my understanding of what I have already learned and what I already do in my practice. The areas I have thought of so far are: ·          Differentiated learning ·          Talk

Online Group Discussion - Monday 20th November

On Monday I attended an online discussion with Adesola, Matt, Charlotte and Laura. It was my first one since the induction session back in September and was interesting to speak to some fellow BAPPers and hear how they're getting on. I am significantly behind them in terms of the tasks so I was speaking and asking about different things. However, I possibly benefited in a way because they were able to advise me from experience about tasks that they had already tackled and potentially revisited and developed more than once. I asked about CVs and the task to write a professional profile. As someone who went straight into teaching rather than working as a performer first, I thought my CV was fairly 'normal' and wasn't sure how to translate it to a profile. We discussed how our CVs are always changing; updating them as we continue our training/development and also adapting them to relate to the specific job we are applying for at the time. Matt put forward the suggesti

Task 1A - Professional Profile

Rewriting my current CV as a profile.... I wasn't too sure what the difference between a CV and a profile was when I first approached this task. I looked through almost everyone else's blogs to see their interpretations and have to give thanks to Charlotte for helping me understand it best. Charlotte was generous enough to upload her performance and 'normal' CVs to her blog as well as typing out her professional profile and the main thing I noticed was the paragraphs of writing on her profile compared to the list-like appearance of her performance CV. Looking at my own CV I can see that it is firstly out of date, and also basically just a list of my training, qualifications, performances and work experience. It is factual and informative but there is nothing 'human' about it; nothing to really sell myself or give potential employers a feel for my personality. Being the black and white, fact-loving person I am, I also then googled definitions for both curric

Reader 1 - Web 2.0

Image
Reader 1 asks us to research and gather resources about how the web is seen and used today. I haven’t done this yet but have started to consider how I personally use the web. So, it seems that despite not knowing what Web 1.0, 2.0, etc are, I actually use them on a daily basis! Ironically, I also ‘googled’ the terms after reading Reader 1 in the handbook. What do these terms mean? Web 1.0 – non-interactive websites. There are two very separate roles; the creator and the user. The creator creates a website and presents their information and the user reads/uses/absorbs what has been presented to them. https://www.techopedia.com/definition/27960/web-10 Web 2.0 – websites/applications/programmes with a new level of interaction. For example: blogs, wikis and social networking sites. The line between creator and user is removed; someone who starts out as a user may decide they can contribute something worthwhile and therefore become a creator as they present their informatio
